OVERRATED

The Toronto Blue Jays have to be the most overrated team over the course of this season. They fired Charlie Montoyo after the team was barely surviving with a .500 record and now they currently hold the third wild card spot. Everyone keeps saying wait til October, but that might be too late for this ball club.
Let's start off with the starting rotation, besides Alek Manoah who is the only starter with a sub 3.00 ERA, it is hideous and way too inconsistent. Kevin Gausman either looks like the player we saw last year on the Giants or he looks like absolute trash, there is never an in between. Same goes with Jose Berrios, who received a big contract in the offseason.

He either pitches lights out or his night is done before the third inning. Don’t even get me started with Kikuchi, I don’t get how he is not in Buffalo right now. Ross Stripling is whatever, there were never any expectations with him coming into the season. So it comes as no surprise that the Blue Jays currently hold the worst team ERA among all current playoff teams.
I’m not going to discredit the offense, because it is the second best in the American League, but none of that matters if your pitchers can’t handle their business. The chemistry of the offense has definitely been affected with Springer in and out of the lineup, but every team goes through injuries to star players. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Matt Chapman have definitely been handling their business, but it hasn’t been enough.

Now the reason why I consider this team to be overrated is due to the fact that the team is an underwhelming 68-58, yet they hold the third best odds to win the American League. Folks, I mean this when I say it, if the season ended today, I wouldn’t even pick them to win the Wild Card game.
As of now, they would face the Guardians and I would take their pitching to beat the Blue Jays offense. I also just don’t know what type of pitching performance I’m going to get from Toronto, but I know what I can get from Shane Beiber when the moment is brightest. Another potential matchup would be the White Sox and if I’m Toronto, the last dude I wanna see pitching at home is potential Cy Young winner Dylan Cease.
If I am right and the team doesn’t make it past the wild card game after the explosive offseason they had, it’s gonna be a fire sale in Toronto.
