BERNA BOY

Nicholas D'Agostino

It is official, Federico Bernadeschi has signed for Toronto FC! The Italian international joined TFC on a free transfer after his previous contract at Juventus had expired. He has signed a deal that will make him a Red through 2026.

TFC are thrilled to add Bernardeschi to this new project that they are building as they believe he is a great fit for them both on and off the pitch. Bernardeschi will join his fellow countrymen in Lorenzo Insigne and Domenico Criscito at TFC.

Federico is coming from Juventus but he has also played at Fiorentina and Crotone (on loan). While out on a loan to Crotone in the Serie B, he played a total of 39 matches and collected 12 goals and 7 assists. After his good performance out on loan, Fiorentina decided to call him up to the first team and he continued his good play for them.

While at Fiorentina, in all competitions Bernardeschi played a total of 93 matches and collected 23 goals and 12 assists. Including a stellar year in 2016-17 which saw him score 11 goals and 4 assists which got Juventus interested in him. Juventus later bought him for a fee of €40.

In over 5 years with Juventus, Bernardeschi scored 12 goals and assisted 24 in 183 matches across all competitions. Bernardeschi has also collected 38 caps for the Azzurri, while also helping them win the Euro cup last summer. In that time he has 6 goals and 6 assists. Throughout his career, Bernardeschi has won 8 trophies in Italy, including three league titles with Juventus.

Bernardeschi is an attacking forward who plays as a winger or attacking midfielder. Bernardeschi is a player who is technically gifted but also has a strong work rate. A player like this is extremely beneficial to any team as out of nowhere, a moment of excellence can be produced of nothing.

He is an extremely talented player who can provide scoring chances for his teammates while also generating his own. Bernardeschi likes to use his favoured left foot to either cut into the middle from the right hand side or drive forward to the goal from the left hand side.

The great thing about Federico is that he is a player that can dictate the game using his skill and technical ability. Because of this, he can provide TFC with moments of excellence that will wow the fans.

Now Bernardechi is coming to TFC in the prime of his career. As I mentioned before he has had a successful career on both the club level, and on the International stage. TFC fans should be very excited for his arrival as the dynamic winger should provide many magical moments TFC fans will never forget.

As things stand, a front three of Lorenzo Insigne on the left, Jesus Jimenez up the middle and Federico Bernardeschi on the right should cause any defense in the MLS many problems for years to come.

Personally I am extremely excited to see what Bernardechi can do in the MLS and I am especially excited to see Insigne and Bernardeschi link up for many goals and assists as they have played together before on the international level. While TFC aren’t done with their rebuild just yet, it sure seems that with their newest arrival this is a sure step in the right direction for Toronto FC.
